Hei hei! Hello! We are Laura and Gisle Gaasemyr, and we're excited to welcome you to our house through Airbnb. We began hosting in July 2014, and it has been a fantastic experience for both of us.
We decided to host Airbnb guests in our spare room after hearing first-hand about the very positive experiences other hosts have had. When our friends told us about how hosting has helped them meet interesting people from all over the world, earn some money, and learn about other cultures, we knew we wanted to be part of that experience. We have also been trying to save money to fix up our basement, and we hope Airbnb will help get us to our goal!
A little about us: Gisle is a born-and-raised native Norwegian who grew up right here in Bergen. Laura is a native of California, USA. We met in 2007 when Gisle was visiting the US as a foreign exchange student at UC Berkeley. We have been married since 2009, and lived in San Francisco until 2014, when we moved to Norway. Gisle missed home and we were both ready for a change of pace.
A bit about Gisle: (sounds like "kiss-leh" but with a G sound)
Gisle is a project manager for a local book publisher, in the IT department. In the past, he's worked at tech companies such as Google and LinkedIn. Gisle is passionate about playing and watching football (soccer, for you Americans), and he is a life-long Liverpool fan. Gisle also loves to play MTG in local competitions.
A little about Laura:
Laura is an archivist and records manager, with a Master's degree in archival science and records administration. She currently works from home for a US company. She especially loves to work with historical records and photographs. Laura's passions include portrait photography, all things crafty & creative, and reading literature constantly.
About Huxley & Judah:
Our home would not be complete without our little dog, Huxley, or our big cat, Judah. Judah travelled with us from San Francisco when we moved to Bergen, and he's adjusted well to life here in Norway. He was named after a street we lived on in San Francisco.
Huxley was born here in Bergen, and we adopted him shortly after we moved here. He was named after the author Aldous Huxley. He loves nothing more than meeting new friends, and is friendly with everyone. He is a Maltese / Yorkshire Terrier mix, and does not shed his hair. Some people who are allergic to dogs may not be allergic to him.
Both our boys are family to us, and their health and happiness are one of our biggest priorities.
